Connect to Protect: Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention
Stephanie Norment, PHR, SHRM-CP, MAOL
HR Manager, Emerald Coast Utilities Authority
As HR professionals, you play a critical role in fostering a psychologically safe and supportive
work environment. “Connect to Protect” equips HR leaders and people managers with the
tools to recognize early warning signs of suicide risk, respond appropriately to employee
mental health crises, and support teams through the aftermath of a suicide-related event.
This session focuses on the three key phases of suicide response:
- Prevention: Proactively build workplace cultures that support mental health and reduce stigma.
- Intervention: Learn how to identify risk, start a conversation, and act with confidence in the face of crisis.
- Postvention: Understand how to support grieving coworkers and maintain team stability after a suicide or attempt.
Through real-life scenarios, discussion, and practical tools, HR professionals will leave
empowered to lead with compassion and responsibility in today’s workplace.
