Ron Hamilton, Founder and Chief Consultant of Practical Human Resources Solutions, will speak to our group on Strategic Compensation Strategies - Total Rewards: A Compensation Primer

This presentation will cover the basics of compensation. It will focus on how to ensure internal consistency of pay, market competitiveness and the importance of recognition of individual differences. This will include the importance of job analysis and job evaluation; the utilization of market surveys and the development of pay structure, job grades and pay ranges. We will discuss the importance of variable (incentive pay) as a cost effective way of improving performance.

As a part of the presentation, we will discuss important compensation issues such as pay compression and how to minimize or eliminate that problem.

This presentation is intended for people in Human Resources who are not compensation specialists but need to understand the basics and managers who need to gain a better understanding of the workings of the compensation process.

At the conclusion of the program participants will be able to:

    • Identify the various base pay systems and the advantages and disadvantages of each
    • Recognize compensation design issues and determine an approach based on organization and employee needs.
    • Describe how to value jobs and from that, build a base pay system.
    • Decide on a methodology for pay structures and increases.
    • Identify the key concerns that must be addressed when designing variable pay plans.
